London Chronicles - Day 1 - Travel

6:00AM IST
Got up so early to catch my flight. It was my first time I was traveling alone. Everyone was getting ready to drop me off. It was not only for me but for everyone especially my sister who wont be seeing me for a month. I packed my bags the day before with the help of my parents. I had a bath,dressed up and came down.
Huh! no more holidays till March 2019,so I had to make the most of it. I had a breakfast of egg dosa which I could not complete as it was getting late. Finally,everyone got in the car and the car went into the drive gear.
8:00AM
Reached airport. Waved everyone who still were not sure and were afraid that I was gonna goof up and were waiting. I had my bags checked and got my boarding passes. I then went and stood in the long line for immigration.
The fellow asked for my passport and my OCI card. After I cleared that, I waved to my family for the last time for a month.
My flight UL122[Srilankan]was supposed to fly from gate 14. It was a headache finding the gate.
9:00AM IST
I reached the gate. Boarding had not yet started. I was so thirsty running that i decided to buy a coke which was 100 rupees. However I bought one and drank. Soon boarding started. I went in and got to my seat 51A.
The A333 began to taxi and then took off from Chennai at 10:15AM.
11:30AM IST
The flight landed at Colombo International Airport. I got out of my gate and was waiting for my connecting flight UL503. It was the same flight from Chennai. So I waited at the same gate till about 12:30. The wifi was poor so no one could be contacted. The airport was still strange though. The customs went through everything including shoes etc... With nothing to do and no wifi, it was a very long hour.

Checked in the same flight. This time it was 52C and not a window seat. The flight took off immediately. The lunch was fine compared to breakfast which was idlis. The lunch consisted of rice,some sauce and some chicken. With 11 hours to go and at 37000 feet, one can't have many joys except for eating,sleeping or the entertainment. To me it was the entertainment.

The flight was going over the Arabian sea and was flying over Iran.
The turbulence was real bad and the plane was shaking rapidly. And just my luck, there were many infants and the flight was so noisy. After about an hour,the flight stopped shaking and things were back to normal. Many were sleeping by now. They had given the landing card and I thought of filling it later.
18:00GMT
The flight was now above Romania. With still 1:30 hours to go,dinner was served which was pasta with chicken. The best one of the day. Soon the flight was above France. I filled my landing card.
19:30GMT
The flight finally landed. What a long journey it was. Now i got off and went straight to immigration and gave my landing card to the officer who asked me for the return ticket. I didn't have it. So i just told him Prasanna Ravindran was waiting for me and he asked me how I knew and asked me to tell the relation and other details , which I did. Finally,I came out.
And chitappa was waiting for me and we were glad to see each other.

We reached Newbury and after about 21 long hours, I was finally able to sleep.
